Shettima Commences 2-Week Leave

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave, effective Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The leave marks the first time Shettima has taken a break since assuming office alongside President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

His spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, announced the development in a statement, explaining that the Vice President will use the period for study and reflection aimed at strengthening his capacity for public service.

According to the statement, the leave will allow Shettima to review the administration's ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the responsibilities ahead as the Federal Government intensifies implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement noted that since taking office, the Vice President has played a key role in coordinating and supervising strategic government initiatives, particularly in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation.

It also highlighted his role as Chairman of the National Economic Council, where he works with the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and other senior government officials to address policies affecting the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.

Beyond his domestic responsibilities, Shettima has represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, promoting Nigeria's interests in areas such as economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment, and sustainable development.

The statement further said the Vice President has remained committed to the principles of loyalty, duty, and service throughout his tenure, supporting the administration's efforts to build a more secure, productive, and prosperous Nigeria.

Shettima is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave.
