Atiku Raises Alarm Over ‘Mysterious’ Credit Into Private Bank Account

Former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over what he described as a suspicious credit transaction into one of his private bank accounts, raising questions about the security of confidential banking information.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the transfer came from an individual unknown to him and was accompanied by the narration "Contribution Electioneering Campaign."

According to the statement, neither Atiku nor his campaign solicited, authorized, or has any knowledge of the person or organization responsible for the payment.

The statement noted that the account in question is a strictly private account whose details are not publicly available, questioning how an unknown individual gained access to the confidential banking information.

Atiku described the development as disturbing, warning that if the private banking details of a former Vice President and presidential candidate could be accessed without authorization, then the financial privacy of ordinary Nigerians could also be at risk.

He further stated that, should it be established that the account details were obtained through individuals with privileged access, it would constitute a serious breach of trust and an abuse of power capable of exposing the account holder to risks including kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, fraud, and other criminal activities.

The statement said the incident had been brought to the attention of the Nigerian public and relevant security agencies, describing it as one of several suspicious developments ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

It also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what it characterized as attempts at character assassination, insisting that such tactics had failed in the past and would not derail Atiku's political ambitions.

The statement concluded by affirming that the Waziri Adamawa remains focused on offering credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria's challenges as political activities ahead of the elections gather momentum.
