176 Woro Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom, Says Kwara Govt

No fewer than 176 victims abducted during the February 3, 2026, terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom.

The Kwara State Government announced the development on Wednesday through a post on its official Facebook page, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies, and all those involved in securing the victims’ release.

“Alhamdulillah, and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful,” the statement read.

The victims, most of whom are women and children, were abducted when armed bandits attacked the communities on February 3.

Speaking to Channels Television, the Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, confirmed the development and commended President Tinubu, the Nigerian military, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their sustained efforts to secure the victims’ freedom.

She explained that the rescue operation had been ongoing for months, noting that the government would await official confirmation from the military before releasing the exact number of victims freed, as they are currently in military custody.

“Yes, our Woro victims have been released. We are still awaiting more details from the military, but first and foremost, we would like to say a big thank you to the President, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian military, and our governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has not rested since it happened,” Olukoju said.

She added that while many had questioned what the government was doing behind the scenes, much of the work could not be made public because of the sensitive nature of security operations.

“But to God be the glory, they have been released. We’re expecting more details,” she said.
