UK Appoints Vicky Seymour As New Deputy High Commissioner To Nigeria

The United Kingdom has appointed Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, succeeding Gill Lever OBE, whose diplomatic posting concluded in June 2026.

The announcement was made by the UK Government on Thursday, confirming that Seymour has assumed her duties in Abuja, where she will play a key role in strengthening the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Her responsibilities will focus on advancing cooperation in areas such as economic growth, security, migration, international development, and people-to-people relations.

Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development, and public service. Before her appointment to Nigeria, she served as the Head of the East Africa Department at the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held since 2023.

Her extensive career also includes leading the FCDO's Trade Diplomacy Department and serving as Development Director in Mozambique. She has held senior leadership positions across Africa, including in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as in Afghanistan, where she worked on issues relating to climate, security, and economic development.

Prior to joining the UK civil service, Seymour worked in the non-profit sector, focusing on migration and international development.
