Dangote Becomes Europe’s Largest Jet Fuel Supplier for 2nd Consecutive Month

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has strengthened its position in the international aviation fuel market after emerging as Europe’s largest supplier of imported jet fuel for the second consecutive month.

According to the latest European import data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler, more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel produced by the 700,000-barrel-per-day Dangote refinery were delivered to Europe in July. The volume represented approximately 20 percent of Europe’s total jet fuel imports during the month.

The development follows a record 466,000 tonnes of jet fuel exported to Europe in June, when Nigeria overtook the United States as the region’s leading supplier of imported jet fuel.

Europe imported approximately 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote accounting for the largest individual share. Traditional suppliers from the United States and the Middle East followed behind.

The sustained export performance highlights the refinery’s growing ability to supply one of the world’s most demanding fuel markets with aviation fuel that meets stringent international quality standards.

Industry observers say Dangote’s growing presence is beginning to reshape established fuel-trading patterns across the Atlantic Basin. European buyers have traditionally relied heavily on suppliers in the United States, the Middle East and Asia. However, Dangote’s strategic location on Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, combined with its large-scale production capacity and modern refining technology, has enabled it to emerge as an increasingly important source of aviation fuel for European markets.

The refinery’s export growth has been supported by rising production and increased crude deliveries. Jet fuel loadings at Dangote’s Lekki export terminal reached a record 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude deliveries to the refinery climbed to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day.

The latest figures come amid significant changes in global energy flows. Europe received some jet fuel supplies from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman in July, but disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and broader geopolitical developments have encouraged European buyers to diversify their sources of supply.

Beyond aviation fuel, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has continued to expand exports of diesel, gasoline and other refined petroleum products to markets across Europe, Africa and other regions.

Commenting on the development, David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, said the refinery’s performance reinforces Nigeria’s growing role in the international petroleum products market.

The refinery’s ability to consistently supply large volumes of jet fuel to Europe marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry and further strengthens the country’s position as an emerging exporter of high-value refined petroleum products.
