Aina Assumes Office as JAMB Registrar, Vows to Safeguard Board’s Integrity

The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has pledged to uphold the integrity of the examination body, describing it as the foundation of every credible institution.

Aina made the commitment on Friday during his official handover ceremony at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, where he outlined his vision for the Board under his leadership.

He stressed that public trust is earned through consistent ethical decisions rather than promises, adding that integrity would remain the guiding principle of his administration.

“Trust is not built by speeches; it is built by decisions, by the choices we make when no one is watching, by the standards we refuse to compromise, and by the value every Nigerian places in the fairness of this institution,” he said.

According to the new registrar, protecting JAMB’s credibility will be his foremost responsibility, warning that technological innovation and operational efficiency are meaningless without transparency and accountability.

He declared that the Board would intensify efforts to combat examination malpractice, admission fraud, impersonation, certificate forgery, cybercrime and corruption. Aina said JAMB would leverage technology, intelligence gathering and stronger institutional oversight while working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to identify and prosecute offenders.

He noted that every admission secured through fraudulent means denies a deserving candidate the opportunity to pursue higher education, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to fairness and merit.

Beyond strengthening examination security, Aina promised to improve service delivery by simplifying registration and admission processes, enhancing communication with candidates, parents and tertiary institutions, and deploying technology to make JAMB’s services more efficient and accessible.

He said his administration aims to build a transparent, responsive and citizen-focused institution where users receive timely information and professional support, reducing the stress often associated with JAMB’s services.

Aina thanked President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with the leadership of the agency and pledged to justify the confidence through dedicated service. He also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, promising to support ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector.

The new registrar paid tribute to his predecessors, including pioneer Registrar Michael Saidu Angulu, Mohammed Abubakar, Bello Salim, Dibu Ojerinde and immediate past Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whom he commended for implementing reforms that strengthened public confidence in JAMB.

He described the seamless transition as a reflection of the Board’s institutional maturity and professionalism, noting that effective leadership is measured not only by achievements in office but also by preparing successors for continued progress.

Reflecting on his appointment, Aina recalled serving at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago, describing his return to lead the institution as a full-circle moment. He pledged to build on the Board’s achievements while positioning it to meet the evolving demands of Nigeria’s education system.
